Before the rains hit Manzanita Speedway Friday night, Steve Moriarity won the Modlite feature and Paul Taylor won the rain shortened Dwarf Car main event.

Moriarity took the lead on the first lap and was never headed although Bud Grossenbacher, the current Southwest Modlite points leader, put constant pressure on the leader. He was still running second at the end of the 15 lap feature. Behind Grossenbacher were Ken Young, Art Garcia and Greg Loper. Rounding out the top ten were Tony Evans, Kenny Hatfield, Tony Martin, David Viss and Troy Korkosz.

Martin won the first heat race as he held off Moriarity and Loper Grossenbacher was better than Young and Popeye Madrid in the second heat. The third heat was won by Evans with Tony Hinsley and Hatfield in pursuit. Bryan Regan topped the field in the final six lap heat with a win over Chris Shafer and Landon Cling.

The Desert Dwarf Cars fielded 44 cars and ran five heat races in addition to their 15 lap main event. Taylor grabbed an early lead and was still in front when the rains came falling down. He was declared the winner over Taylor Cuzick, Jesse Patterson, Mike Martin and Kevin Cain. The rest of the top ten, in order were Randy Johnson, Erin Jones, Steve Davis, Casey Cain and Steve Kapaun.

The six lap heat races were won by Nicky Escobedo, Kevin Stalbaum, JJ LeMoine, Davis and Martin. John Ogden ran second to Escobedo with Cuzick in third. Patterson trailed Stalbaum in the second heat and Brian Stehr was third. Behind LeMoine were Mike McGrellis and Matt Decker. Sandy Matthews and Randy Johnson pursued Martin while Martin held of Paul Taylor and Kevin Cain.

Steve Kapaun and Cliff Lee won the two Dwarf Car semi mains and Nicky Escobedo topped the field in the Modlite semi.
