Tucson, Arizona (March 28th, 2009) - RC Whitwell swings back and beats Christy
Georges in The Race of Champions Round 3. Whitwell out lasted Georges in
another nail biting UMP West Modified 25 lap feature event and scored his second
victory of 2009.
After a 15 lap side by side battle between the front runners, Whitwell took the
lead from Brian Clark late in the race and never looked back. Georges made
several unsuccessful attempts to overtake the leader and settled in for the
runner up spot. Whitwell proved why he is Tucson's top contender as he held off
a stout field of 29 of the best Modified drivers in the west.
Daniel Hutto drove from the 18th position and secured his spot on the podium.
Brian Clark, who led the majority of the race, finished 4th and Brad Campbell
completed the top 5. Cody Alvarez, Royal Jones, Adam Crippen, Carl Trimmer and
Wade Simmons made up the remainder of an extremely competitive top 10.
Marty Hussak had his way with a very stout cast of Super Stock competitors.
Hussak took the lead from his front row starting position and held off Rob
Colclasure and Erick Gibson. James Binkley, series point leader, crossed the
line just ahead of 5th place finisher Tommy Hussak III.
Terry Churchwell extended his points lead by winning the 20 lap Factory Stock
Feature. Churchwell made his way through bumper to bumper traffic just ahead of
Larry Leetch and Johnny McCarty.
Adam Crippen was victorious in the Arizona Late model divisions.
