Tucson, Arizona (May 17th, 2009) - Major Jason Jensen, from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, flew past fellow competitors to pick up victory honors in the First Annual Armed Forces Appreciation Hornet Challenge.  Jensen, who started 6th in the 10 lap battle, drove around the outside of the leader to capture the win in front of the capacity crowd at USA Raceway.

Jensen was a surprise entrant into the race as he was not expected to be in attendance due to being deployed over seas.  In a joint effort with The Tucson Airport Courtyard, Jensen was responsible for orchestrating Armed Forces Appreciation Night and was a perfect fit for the final seat in the race.  The crowd roared as he stood on top of the roof of his borrowed race car, victorious.

Veteran shoe Rickey Hood added another notch to the win column by topping Saturday night's 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Southwest Region feature.

Piloting the familiar Herrera No. 45x entry, Hood snared his first win under the ASCS banner since September of 2002 in front of Ben Gregg.  Defending series champion Rick Ziehl took over the series points lead by taking the show position, with John Carney II and Cody Cambensy rounding out the top five.

Daniel Hutto was sixth, with Kaylene Verville, Mike Martin, Charles Davis, Jr., and Joshua Hodges completing the top ten.

RC Whitwell drove flawlessly to earn his fourth victory in Barnett Harley Davidson UMP West Modified action.  Whitwell, who started 23rd, sliced his way through traffic leading the final circuits in the 25-lap feature and taking home the $1000 winners prize.

Whitwell was raced to the line by Robert Adams, who settled for second after leading the first 17 laps.  Adam Crippen, Dan Jorgenson and Carl Trimmer rounded out the top five.

Brian Clark was sixth, with Brian Schultz, Brad Campbell and the Kokot duo of Ron and Jack completing the top ten.

Jacob Hawkins won the Arizona Modified Midget feature out dueling Kurt Stultz and Dylan Cappello.  Dalton Gabbord and Brandon George rounded out the top 5.
