Whitwell, Moffett and Partain Find Victory Lane in 2009 Opener
Tucson, Arizona (March 1stst, 2009) – RC Whitwell stepped up for the challenge, holding off several past and defending champions, in the season opener at USA Raceway. Whitwell showed why he is the driver to beat in 2009, crossing the finish line ahead of Royal Jones and Anthony Madrid.
Whitwell set the pace early and led the star studded field to the checkered flag in route to his 1st UMP West Modified victory of 2009. Whitwell made his way through heavy lapped traffic beating the remaining 32 car field to the line.
Engine builder turned race car driver, Stu Moffett perfected the weekend winning his heat race and feature event in the Super Stock division. Moffett took the lead early on and never looked back. Marty Hussak and James Binkley chased Moffett to the line followed by Doug Paxson and Erick Gibson.
Rookie Driver, Josh Partain, edged out a victory after being sent to the rear of the field on lap 8. Partain, making his debut at USA Raceway, made it to the line first after battling side by side sometimes 3 wide for most of the race. The crowd was on their feet as the field battled it out to the end. Casa Grande transplant,Terry Churchwell and Dusty Gauthier, settled for podium finishes after the hard fought battle.

USA Raceway hosts the SWDRA Late Models this Saturday March 7th as Lonnie Parker Jr. sets to defend his championship. The high powered Late Models will open their 2009 season along with Factory Stocks, Dwarf Cars and Modlites. General admission tickets will go on sale at 5pm for only $12, racing will begin promptly at 7pm.
Season Passes are on sale for only $199 and $149 for Seniors, Students and Military. Suite Access Passes which allow race fans the opportunity to enjoy the races from USA Raceway’s VIP Suite are also on sale for only $349.
