Race Notes: 4th staring Derek Ramirez got the jump on
the field after a lap one caution and flew off to the
lead, while his teammate Jon Tesch was locked in a great
battle with Mike Hanson and Eric Turner throughout the
early stages of the event. Meanwhile, back in traffic,
one of the best Modified races of the season was
unfolding as the pack was racing three and four wide for
position. Tesch ran down Ramirez for the lead and the
teammates ran side by side for multiple circuits while
Hanson and Turner were swapping the third spot back and
forth. 14th starting Jeremy Payne and 15th starting
Terry Phillips were quickly moving through traffic and
were locked in battle for the final transfer spot as the
laps wound down. Tesch took the lead for good near the
end and held off Ramirez for the win to earn the pole
position for Sunday's $15,000 to win main event. Ramirez
ran second with Turner and Hanson third and fourth
respectively. Phillips nipped Payne on the final lap for
the fifth and final transfer spot.

Race Notes: Polesitting Jeremy Payne wasted no time
jumping to the lead and left nothing to the imagination
as he pulled out to a huge advantage in the opening laps
and blistered the field for an easy win tonight. Jimmy
Ray ran solidly in second the entire time and held
strong for a runner up spot. The best battle on the
speedway was for third witth Terry Phillips and RC
Whitwell in a great battle for third with Phillips
hanging on for it to the checkered. Ti m Donlinger held
off a charging Moorgan Bagley for the fifth and final
transfer spot at the line as well.

Race Notes: Jeremy Payne proved tonight that you really
can 'come home again' after returning to his hometown of
Tucson, AZ and dominating the 40-lap $15,000 to win Wes
Hurst Memorial. Payne but his teeth racing in Tucson and
although he has not been a resident of the Arizona city
for the past 7 or so years, he showed no signs of having
missed a beat as he jumped from the front row and lead
all 40-laps withstanding early pressure from Jon Tesch
and then being forced to hold off his teammate Terry
Phillips for the win. Phillips and Tesch swapped second
multiple times during the feature event, which was held
after a 2+ hour rain delay. The track was lightning
quick and the event lasted just under 25mintues from
start to finish. 9th starting Jason Hughes and 11th
starting Rodney Sanders rounded out the top five
finishers in the richest Modified race in the country in
2009.
