For Immediate Release 10/2/09 by the ASCA Board of Directors:

ASCA President Resigns!

This week the ASCA’s Dave Darst resigned from his position as President. Mr. Darst did not give a reason for his resignation, but he commented that he had “seen the writing on the wall.” The board of the directors held a think tank meeting this past Monday evening to discuss the future developments of their organization. With participation on the upswing, and many expressing a new found interest in this 20 year old racing institution, the board is looking to restructure and bring the ASCA into the 2010 racing season with a whole new prospectus. “We want to accommodate the needs of the sprint car racing community.” Commented members of the board, “this includes taking a good hard look at the way we have been doing business and making positive improvements.” Commented another long time associate of the organization.

It has been no secret that the ASCA has concentrated almost solely on its survival. Since the closing of Manzanita Speedway earlier this year, many racers have considered the ASCA a viable alternative to local racing. This new found interest has helped to infuse new life into the club. With all of this energy comes the need to make ASCA a better organization for its supporters. That’s what Monday’s meeting was all about.  For three and a half hours the Members of the board tabled ideas on how to proceed. Most of the members came away with a new found inspiration to raise the bar on the standards of the ASCA. After reflecting on the direction the board needs to take, Mr. Darst felt it would be in the best interest of the club for him to resign. Darst gives the ASCA his best wishes, and hopes for its success.“ Darst saw the ASCA through some pretty rough times,” reflected Jim Stender, member of the board. “After all, we have survived.”

The new order of business for ASCA is to look for new motivated leadership, qualified to meet the demands of this tough economy, and offer the best racing experience for the sprint car community possible. The ASCA board will be re-structuring it’s business plan  Gearing up for more promotion, better officiating, and better accountability for it’s members. The ASCA Board of Directors is now accepting nominations for the position of president/ General Manager. Their primary concern is to accept nominees that are well aware of the demands. They must be qualified, have the experience, the leadership, and the motivation to move this club forward, as well as be accepted by the voting members of ASCA. The board feels strongly that this individual not participate in ASCA Competition as a driver, or an owner. If you have someone that you feel meets this criteria, and would make a good leader, submit a written nomination to Secretary Pat Norbury or any member of the ASCA board by letter or by e-mail. Pat’s e-mail address is npatticake91@commspeed.net
