Brendan Higgins Crowned 2009 ASCA Rookie of the Year!
The Higgins family is one of those racing teams that every racer would consider a success for many reasons. The one that many would consider foremost comes to mind when you take a second look at the crew. With the majority sharing the last name of Higgins, no matter where Brendan finishes, every race night is Family Night. Family teams where Mom, Dad, and all other siblings have a hand are getting to be a rarity in the highly competitive field of Open wheel racing. While most families are found in pursuit of separate interests on any given Saturday Night, The Higgins Family is together working hard to bring this fifteen year old racer to the fore among the ranks of the ASCA. With the help of Michael Bryant as crew chief they have become a formidable racing team with the Arizona Sprints.
Brendan was four when he watched his first quarter midget race with his Dad at South Mountain Park. By the time Brendan was 5 he was in a quarter midget. He won three of his first five races. By 2007 he began his first full season driving a Midget with the AMRA. By the end of the year, young Brendan had tallied a Main Event win, Seven top five finishes, Nine top Ten finishes, and won all three trophy dashes he participated in. That was good enough to get him AMRA's rookie of the year honors and guess what....... finished 6th in points. Brendan continued to work hard in a 360 sprint car. It was a rough season for the Higgins family, Mechanical failures, and a couple of hard crashes marked the season, But Brendan was able to finish Sixth in the overall points chase with ASCA and Rookie of the Year once again. Coincidence? Maybe, but it makes any race fan wonder what this family racing team will accomplish next!
We wish the Higgins Family continued success as a family racing team, and we hope to see many more years with Brendan behind the wheel!
