"Did we really?"  Nathan High ends the evening with an almost flawless performance in the ABC #12 car.  Who's that ugly guy in the hat?                                       Pictures by Rafael Alvarez

Nathan High took the top honors in the ASCA Non Winged Sprint Cars Saturday night at Canyon Speedway Park.  Twenty ASCA Sprints took the green flag on a well prepared racetrack in front of the largest crowd seen at Canyon in years.  The popular winner took the lead in the early laps and held on through several yellow and red flags to score his first main event win of 2009.

Youngster Zach Sawyers was a close second with Shon Deskins, Stevie Sussex and RJ Johnson rounding out the top five.  Johnson, Sawyers and High took heat race wins with Sawyers capturing the dash.

The IMCA Modifieds saw a bit of history made as second generation driver Tim Ward took his first ever main event win.  Ward, a graduate of the Modified Midget class is in his second season of Modified racing.  The race was slowed by many yellow flags and a race stopping red flag when the 03 car of Jay Parvin rolled his mount during a five car crash early in the race.  Following Ward across the line was John Morris Jr, Bo Hatfield, Chuck Keuhl and Marlyn Seidler.  Heats went to Chuck Keuhl, John Morris Jr and Ricky Thornton Jr.

Steve Bitting dominated the Pure Stock main event as he took the lead on lap 5 of the main event and never looked back.  Patrick Shumaker, George Fronsman,  Jeff Stafford and Steve Shumaker made up the top five.  Heats races were won by Steve Bitting, Steve Shumaker and Brandon Parker.

Southwest Modlites ran a very copmetitve main event with Tony Evans holding off all challengers to capture his first main event win.  Evans took the lead from his front row outside starting spot at the drop of the green.   Top five were Evans, Ken Young, Steve Moriarty, Bud Grossenbacher and Tony Martin.  Heats went to Evans, Young and Terry Belcher Sr.

"Flyin" Matt Jackson took the main event win in the AMMA Modified Midget class over 2008 champion Dalton Gabbard. Dylan Cappello, Daniel Doherty and Russ Martin made up the top five.  Heats were won by Dylan Cappello and Dalton Gabbard.

Canyon Speedway Park will be in action again next Saturday night March 21st with the IMCA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Desert Dwarf Cars, Arizona Modlites and Bombers.  Racing action gets the green flag at 7:30pm.
