(Nov. 22) Mike Dunn completed a perfect weekend as he led all 20 laps in he Dwarf Car Nationals Saturday night at Manzanita Speedway. Dunn also led the entire distance in Friday night’s feature. He won his heat Friday night and won the Dash for position Saturday night. The win in the dash put Dunn on the pole and even though he was challenged midway through the race by Brian Stehr he never faulted and Stehr had to settle for second. Mike’s father, Butch, finished third after starting 13th. Clifford Lee took fourth ahead of Kevin Cain. Rounding out the top ten were Mike Williams, Chad Stewart, Brian Comley, Gareld Hardy and Pat Henesey.

Forty-four cars were on hand for the Nationals which marked the end of the 2008 season at Manzy. The top eight from Friday night’s feature were locked into the main event and the remaining 26 cars ran four heat races with the top two in each heat securing positions in the "B" feature. Aaron Jones won the first heat with Butch Dunn in second. Gareld Hard and Randy Haugen finished one-two in the second heat. The third heat went to Chris Snyer over John Ogden. The final heat put Kevin Cain and Mike Williams in the "B".

The dwarf cars ran two 15 lap "C" mains with the top eight from each transferring to the "B". Eddie O’Neill had the pole in the first "C" and led all the way. Denny Dowty, Todd Bennett, Tim Cotherman, Helen Henesey, Jerry Hartnett, Fred Difenbaugh and Ken Caskey earned their way into the "B". The second "C" added Ryan Henesey, Benny Tufts, Randy Haugen, Brian Comley, Casey Cain, Robert Ostrom, Melanie Williams and Daniel Lamm to the 24 car "B" main.

With 16 spots still open in the "A" feature the track was crowded as the field fought for positions. Chris Snyder came out of the second row and took the win but was under pressure from Kevin Cain with Aaron Jones in third ahead of Hardy and Butch Dunn.

The Dwarf Cars ran in the final race of the night and the feature marked the 194th main event run at Manzy in the 2008 season.

STULTS TURNS FAST LAPS IN WINNING THE MINI SPRINT CAR NATIONALS

The Wayne Keizer Mini Sprint Nationals 30 lap feature race went to Kurt Stults who was by far the quickest car on the track. He was continuously turning laps in the low to mid 14 second bracket with his fastest timed lap at 14.35 for an average speed of 83.613 m.p.h.

Stults topped Kiley Fellers to come out on top of a series of two lap match races featuring the top eight drivers from Friday night’s feature. The first race had Dustin Cormany eliminating Dennis Parks. Stults then put Dalton Gabbard out. Fellers eliminated Austin Quick and Jan Ballard fell victim to Garrett Guilkey. The Stults beat Cormany and Fellers topped Guilkey. Stults became the winner when he beat Fellers.

An inverted start from the match races put Stults in the fourth row. Quilkey had the pole and led the first three laps before yielding to Ballard who led four laps before Stults, who started eighth, took command and left it to the rest of the field to battle for the lesser positions. Three of his main threats were eliminated on the 22nd lap when Guilkey, who was running third, spun and collected Friday night’s winner Fellers and Cormany who ran second in the preliminaries.

Jan Ballard had a good weekend with a second place run after finishing third Friday night. Josh Shipley got a great start at the green flag after the three car crash and shot to third after starting 14th. Dalton Gabbard, the 2008 modified midget champion matched his fourth place finish in Friday night’s feature and Brandon George place fifth. The rest of the top ten, in order, were Quick, Parks, Tyler Keesler, Mike Visser and Paul Martin.

Visser won the first eight lap heat race over Martin, Matt Jackson and Katherine Aragon. The second heat went to Keesler over Cliff Cormany, Jody Higginbothom and Geno Thomas. The final heat was won by George who finished ahead of Shipley, J. Bernal and Brian O’Donnell.

Jackson won the "B" main with B.J. Arntz second, Justin Quinn third Thomas fourth and Bernal fifth. Also earning main event berths were Aragon, Jacob Hawkins, Grant Garagnon, Brian O’Donnell, Travis Keesler and Ronnie Smith.

The Nationals marked the end of the 2008 racing series at Manzanita.
