Prescott Valley is a great place to race! That was the conclusion of most Sprint car racers and fans that came to the cool country of Yavapai County's Fairgrounds this past week. PVC attracted record attendance for the first annual Sprint Car Extravaganza. The energy was much like Manzanita Speedway in the late 70's where fans were on their feet cheering for their favorites.
Bugs Norbury the promoter attracted cars from all over the state, and California to come to Prescott Valley and Compete. He made arrangements for a good paying purse and a promise of good fair sprint car racing. With positive feedback, Bugs rolled up his sleeves and recruited the rest of the Norbury Family to help. Many would agree that the Norbury Family was met with sure success for their hard work. There were very few glitches in the show, but you could tell there was an over all strong effort to validate all of the concerns and suggestions of the racers. There was no "My way or the Highway" attitude among the staff running the show. There were a few concerns that came up through the weekend, but the Norbury family worked hard to resolve them. "We will continue to make improvements as we go. It's not like Bugs does this every week. We are trying to take everybody's input and use it to make things even better." Responded Mom, Pat.
Even with the delays caused by yellow flags, the racing was over just a little past Ten. If you didn't get a chance to come to Prescott Valley this past weekend, make sure not to miss the Open Comp show coming up in August. You are in for a night of good grass roots racing, and you will not regret it. For results see the ABC Motorsports message board. We will be publishing more pictures later this week. -by Robbie Allen

Andy Reinbold in the winner's circle on Friday night. Andy did a clean sweep of the first night with no looking back.

RJ Johnson's crew ready for the second night's Main Event. RJ later piloted the Ford powered Sherman to victory.

RJ Johnson followed by Stevie Sussex, Jeremy Sherman, and Nathan High

Nathan High works on the Senior Steve for the fourth position. The track was pretty slick for the final laps, and passing was a premium. Steve Senior would prevail finishing the night in the third spot.

Chargin' Charles Davis Jr. Dons his floaties for the second night of competition. Jeremy Sherman next to Charles in the Reagles' 44 car.

Brendan Higgins is readied in staging by his dad and Michael Bryant. That's Andy Reinbold in the background in his Buckley entry.

Nathan High and the ABC #12 car waiting to start the Main Event

Charles Davis making short order of turn three in his Massey DRC. (You gotta love the floaties). It was a real seal of approval for the weekend to see The orange Massey entry among the entries. These folks don't pull this car out for just any show. It better be a good one, and we were not disappointed.

Steve Sussex Sr. figured he would give it a try in Prescott. He said, I'll just show up and tag along the back somewhere and have a little fun." Well Steve, If running strong all weekend and dicing it out with the top contenders is what you call fun, we will have to agree! We hope to see more of you in your #4 sled.

Stevie Sussex wound up the night second. It was a tough gig, but Stevie kept his cool all evening and tamed the Prescott Valley clay with some precision driving, and a cool head.

The "Bullet" Bob Ream works over the Norman #97 entry. He would be plagued with motor problems for most of the weekend, but we hope to see him back at PVR this year.

This shot explains the floaties on Saturday. Charles had a run-in with the mud puddle in the infield on the first night. This poor guy was soaked to the bone in this picture.

Art Mankel showed some of the home court advantage early on with his Challenge Cup entry. Art looked good out there fighting off ASCS 360's and 410's. Unfortunately he would experience mechanical difficulties later on that would leave him with a DNF in the Main Event.
