Ziehl Earns First ASCS Canyon Win in Hank Arnold Memorial
Lonnie Wheatley, TUCSON, Ariz. (September 6, 2009) – New Mexico’s Rick Ziehl added another skin to the wall by topping Sunday night’s 30-lap Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region Hank Arnold Memorial atop USA Raceway’s 3/8-mile clay oval.
The reigning champion in the winged ASCS Southwest ranks, Ziehl proved his versatility by outlasting current wingless ASCS Canyon Region points leader Charles Davis, Jr., for the triumph in Sunday night’s non-wing affair.
Ziehl and Davis were chased to the line by two-time ASCS Canyon Region champion Jeremy Sherman, with Stevie Sussex and R.J. Johnson rounding out the top five.
Defending event winner Andrew Reinbold crossed the stripe sixth, with Bobby Taylor, Chris Bonneau, Nathan High and Johnathon Henry completing the top ten.
Taylor, Davis, Ziehl and Sherman topped heat race action for the 33-car field, with Mike Rux, Jr., winning the “B” Main.
