USA Raceway Is Doing it Right

ASCS Canyon Region made a wise choice in  putting USA Raceway Park on the Schedule for the 2008 season. Under the new management of Keith Hall former owner of Manzanita Speedway, this Tucson facility is better than ever. From the fan’s point of view, the facility is first class. Right down to the Good food at the concession stands, it seems that everywhere you look, the USA Staff was taking care of business.  

This past Saturday night had three divisions on the venue, and with a good intermission, consisting of old cars, and autographs from the drivers, the final checker had waved before 10:00.   

The show gave the fans a variety of racing with the ASCS Non Wing Sprints, Late Models, and Mini Sprints. Fans had plenty of time to mingle with their favorite race teams in the pits after the race, and fun was had by all.

From the racer’s point of view, the program went smoothly. The staging area was easily accessible, and cars were given plenty of notice to get ready. It’s nice to pit out of your trailer, and the way the pits are layed out makes it easy. Grand stands are supplied for the race teams in the pits so that none of the action is missed. During the Main event, the teams were allowed to go to the infield with spares and watch the race from there.  The concessions in the pit area were more than adequate, and the food was not bad.

The track itself has improved a lot since the last time we were there. It held moisture a lot better, and was very smooth. You could tell that a lot of attention was given to it’s preparation. Watering at the intermission did not hurt it a bit, and there was no dust. The main event was fast, and good track preparation made for a great show with a lot of passing action. Hall has even more plans to improve the facility in the near future.

Past experiences at USA had left our team a little skeptical. This track has always thrown us a curve, and we thought twice about making the long drive. We are glad we did. It’s like a whole different facility. We had a great time.

If you get a chance to visit the newly managed USA Raceway Park, by all means, give it a try. I think you will find us, that you’ll be glad you did.
