Wild West Open Comp Sprint Car Rules

 

It the sincere desire of those coordinating this effort to do the best that they can to give you the participant the best racing experience possible. Many racers have been painstakingly interviewed, and the opinions of Arizona sprint car racing teams compiled. The information was then carefully considered and shaped into a division by validating the majority of those opinions, and coming up with the best and most popular choices that you and your peers wanted to see. It was with the hope that what was put together with your help will meet or exceed your expectations. If you have any suggestions or concerns, please feel free to bring them to the attention of the facility appointed consultants. They will be glad to address them by e-mail or by phone. If circumstances arise that are not covered by these rules, officials will apply a common sense approach in its decision-making until a rule can be enacted to address the issue.

 

Section A - Engine Rules

 

1) Engines without ASCS heads with the insignias still in tact or

    ASCS Gaskets must run 2” restrictors or stacks.

 

2) Must be 8 Cylinder with a maximum of 2 valves per cylinder and no

    overhead camshafts.

 

3) Mufflers required

 

4) Must be a steel block

 

5) Chances are if you have a 360 Cubic inch engine you are legal and welcome here.

 

6) Fuel must be clear alcohol

 

7) No electronic Traction Control of any kind

 

8) Must have 377 C.I. or less

 

Section B - Tire Rule

 

Right rear tire must be a 17” Hoosier Medium or harder. You can run a 18 inch tire labeled “Hard” but no traction enhancers can be applied.

 

Section C- Chassis Rules

 

1) Cars must be the same shape and size as a sprint car and use sprint car parts.

 

2) No wings or body parts that act like wings.

 

3) Belts must be two years old or newer, and you must wear proper safety gear.

 

4) All nuts and bolts must be tight, all parts secured.

 

5) Any Ballast used to make weight must be approved by Tech Officer

 

6) All cars running with ASCS heads or ASCS gaskets must weigh a minimum of 1425 pounds with driver. ASCS Heads must have all of the casting letters in the port chambers in tact. All other cars must weigh 1500 pounds with driver, and engines must run a restrictor in the stacks measuring 2.1 inches.

 

7) Car numbers must be legible and be able to be read from the grandstands.

8) Run all the Titanium you want. Knock yourself out. Just make sure your car weighs enough when it hits the scale or you WILL be disqualified and all winnings and pay will be forfeited.

9) Anything homemade or jury rigged will be subject to a safety inspection at the Tech officer’s discretion.

10) No cockpit adjustments on shocks, weight jackers, or  …….?

Section D- Safety

 

1) Must wear industry approved fireproof suit, gloves, underwear, and shoes.

 

2) No rough driving. If race director receives multiple complaints from multiple competitors, your rough driving.

 

3) Any fines imposed during the night will be paid before your car goes back on the track. All fines will be added to the purse.

 

4) Must use a race radio. (That works)

 

5) All drivers MUST attend the driver’s meeting.

 

Section E – Prizes and Penalties

 

1) Top three finishers go to the podium, get your trophy and picture taken, and like it. Pill draw is $20.00 per car, and the money goes to the purse. No membership required.

2) Any car that takes any green flag will be paid $50 unless the promoter chooses to pay more.

3) Any driver failing to draw for heat races or pack racing surface (when requested) will not receive passing points, but only points accumulated through his finishing position in his heat race.

 

4) Track rules apply. If you don’t know what the track rules are, ask or go to the track’s website and check it out. Rules will be made available at the tech station by the Tech advisor.

 

5) If you violate any of the rules outlined herein, you can be warned, fined, suspended, banned, tied to the nearest ant hill, or any combination of the aforementioned at the discretion of track management.

6) Any car needing to be re-started for any reason will be sent to the back of the field.

7) Any car causing a yellow for any reason will tag. If you cause two yellows, you will be black flagged and must leave the track as soon as safely possible.

8) In the event of a Red Flag, you will not drive by the wreck for any reason. You must stop as soon as safely possible.

Section F - Scoring

1) The driver will receive points for passing as well as finishing position. These points will determine where you are placed in the Feature or the B Feature. They are determined by using the following graph.

2) The top 8 scoring cars will be subject to a pill draw for position in the A Feature.

3) The top 4 finishers of the “B” Feature will transfer to the “A” Feature finishing off the last four positions.

4) In the event of a tie in passing points, the driver who first earned the points shall be positioned in front of any driver earning the same amount of points.

5) Passing points will be determined by where the cars are positioned on the final parade lap.

Section G- Protests and Complaints

1) Protests need to be brought to the race director immediately after the incident, Ruling or judgment is made by the official or the competitor. If the program is continued or ruled upon that is the basis of the protest. The protest will not be validated. They need not be made in writing, but they need to be clear and presented in a civilized manner. Any verbal or physically abusive action on the part of the protestor will void the protest.

2) All judgments on protests will be final.

3) The race director or any other appointees will be glad to hear any suggestions by the racers, fans, or anyone else for that matter. A ruling will be made in the common interests and good of all participants.

4) WWOC consists of appointees of the facility or facilities that have chosen to run this format. All of the rules herein are promulgated by the facility staff or it’s appointees. Disqualification and refusal of participants is solely at the discretion of the race director.

 

Section H- General Division Rules

 

1) If twenty-eight (28) or more cars are present, there will be four (4) heat races and a Semi-Main Event.

 

2) If twenty-one (21) to twenty-seven (27) cars are present, there will be three (3) heat races and a Semi-Main Event.

 

3) If less than twenty-one (21) cars are present, there will be three (3) heat races and a Main Event.

 

4) A driver who goes out late or comes in early from wheel-packing will tag his heat race. Repeated offenses may result in that driver tagging the Main Event and a $25 fine. If the driver is already tagging his heat race, he will tag his next race.

 

5) Any driver who fails to participate in wheel-packing will not receive hot laps or run in his scheduled heat race, and shall tag either the Semi Main or Main Event. The Pit Steward may grant exceptions at his discretion.

 

6) Any driver who spins repeatedly during hot laps may be required to tag his heat race.

 

7) Upon any driver change, that car must tag the next event.

 

8) No driver changes are permitted after the race has started.

9) A cone will normally be used to start all races.

10) These formats may be modified in response to race conditions and/or cars present at the discretion of Race Officials.

 

11) Non-qualifiers can compete in the Semi Main Event and/or Consolation races (if held).

 

Race Length:

a.) 17 or more cars: 15 laps.

b.) 16 or fewer cars: 12 laps.

3. Main Event Transfer:

a.) 20-car Main Event program: The top 4 Semi Main finishers will transfer.

 

12) Any car failing to start under the original Green Flag will start at the rear of the field if the race is restarted.

 

13) Pill Draw will cost $20.00

 

Section I -Provision for Challenge Cup Cars

CHALLENGE CUP PURSE

1) Six to Nine Challenge Cup cars participating there will be a separate Challenge Cup heat race. The top 6 cars will go to a Challenge Cup Dash. Top finisher will get a trophy, and pay out based on a pay metric of $100.00 per car. The top 2 will have the option of competing in the A Feature of the Open Comp Division.

2) For Ten to Sixteen cars there will be two heat races. For more than Sixteen cars there will be a minimum of 3 heat races. The top 6 cars will run a Challenge Cup Dash. Top finisher will get a trophy and their finish will determine the starting position in the Challenge Cup Main Event. They will Line up according to how they place in the Dash. The residual starting positions will be Determined by the passing points accumulated in their heats. The top two finishers of the Challenge Cup Feature will have the option of competing in the Open Comp A feature. In order to compete, they must forfeit their winnings for the Feature payout, and will take the last two starting positions. For 16 or more cars, the top three finishers of the Challenge cup Feature will receive a trophy. If there are 15 cars or less, a trophy will be awarded to the winner.

3) To accommodate the Challenge Cup cars, the WWOC A Feature will run up to 22 cars if there are any Challenge Cup competitors that wish to exercise their option.

4) Challenge Cup Cars MUST comply with ALL Challenge Cup rules and are subject to Tech Inspection.

5) If there are less than six Challenge Cup entries in a night, they will run the regular WWOC format, with the top scoring finisher receiving a “Challenge Cup Top Dog” award of $100.00 in addition to the normal WWOC payout. Challenge Cup Competitors must exercise their A Feature option to qualify for the “Top Dog” award. The top scoring cars will be given the option if they do not qualify by the over all passing points.

6) Pill draw will be $10.00 unless the following provision is used……….

7) At the race director’s discretion, Challenge Cup entries may be assigned to a separate heat race. On these occasions, they will run the same race format as the rest of the WWOC participants and be scored on the same merit. The Top Dog award will still apply. This rule is not contingent upon number of participants.

8) All Challenge Cup entries must designate that they are competing as a Challenge Cup entry. If they do not, they will be run as a regular W.W.O.C. entry, and be subject to the rules thereof.

The Wild West Sprint Cars does not operate independently of the racing facilities in which it sanctions events. All agents assisting W.W.O.C. in the promotion or officiating of any events held therein are working in behalf of, and are appointees of that facility.
